Pallet Coffee Cup Rack

Okay, Okay, I am NOT good at keeping up on my blog. This I know. I have had a super busy summer and fall. It was full of cabin time, family time and even a trip home to Minnesota to see some family.

But yet here I am with a super cute project. I can’t wait to show you.

In our house, we love all things coffee. Cups included. As you can imagine, people know this about us. So whenever it’s time for someone to buy us a gift for a birthday or Christmas, a cute coffee cup is the logical choice. And we LOVE our coffee cup gifts.

So much so, that when we are overflowing our cupboard with coffee cups, we don’t get rid of them, we build a rack so we can keep them and display them!

We have had this old pallet under our overhang on the side of our shed for years now. It was the perfect pallet for the job. Real weathered and filthy. No problem. I sprayed it off and cleaned it up with a brush.

We had to shorten the pallet from it original size because of the spot where we put it in our kitchen. We took a couple pieces off the front in order to make some shelves on the rack. You know, for all my cute items. 😉

Our dog is inspecting his work. 🙂

Keep in mind, if you do this project and I really think you should, every pallet is going to be different and unique in size and age.

If I had a new pallet, I might consider painting it or staining it to match the colors in the area I want to put it.

Another way to make this your own, hooks and knobs. So off to Hobby Lobby I went. If you keep an eye on their website, you can find out when their knobs and hooks will be 50% off. This is what I did. That is a huge savings.

I went with a random pattern and non matchy match knobs along with a few hooks. One thing to note, try out a few coffee cup handles on the knobs as they will not all fit.

The finished product is my favorite. It was a 1/2 day project so it wasn’t a huge deal. It was easy and such a space saver. This one exceeded my expectations. Every time I have something in mind, It always turns out better than I had hoped. Thanks to my husband who is always willing to help me.

Sorry about the quality of these photos but you can still see the cute factor right?

I have two more super easy projects that we did this summer. One with my daughter and another one with my husband. I’ll get to it. I will…I will.

Until next time my friends! <3

Pallet upcycle

So for Mother’s Day this year my husband asked what I wanted. Nothing is ever easy with me. I wanted pallet couches for my patio.  So I went to Pinterest and did a little research to see what I wanted….so. many. cute. things.

I think I need more. Okay, do I need or just want. I think we both know the answer to that. HAHA.

So he started by bringing home ALL THE PALLETS. Stacks and stacks. He has to take them all apart and that is the hard part because I don’t have the muscles, but he does.

After he took all the pallets apart, he needed a frame for the couch.

Then all the sides, this took a while, but he is diligent and a perfectionist. Whenever I build something, it’s maybe measure once, cut 4 times and then learn the hard way. He is, think through every scenario, measure 4 times, cut once and everything works out. Well that’s not true, but he is pretty good.

I can’t wait for you to see the finished product, because it is WAY cute.

Getting there. So may cuts. By the way, he is using a nail gun and screws to put this together.

We decided that this needed a good sanding so we don’t give our guests slivers. How sweet of me. So I gave it a good sanding and then picked out some stain. We ended up going with a dark stain because my husband didn’t want plain old grey cushions,  like I wanted. I am boring like that.

So we went with a fun blue cushion that we picked out before we started planning out the couches. Which I recommend, this way you have a measuring guide.  I wouldn’t want to build something and then hope to find cushions to fit.

You may find yourself making cushions, which would be great too, if you know how to do that kind of thing.

What is fun about this project is you can make it to fit your style and personality. Light stain, medium, dark…

Bright cushions and pillows, whatever you want. I went to Marshall’s and spent my Mother’s Day gift card from my daughters and got 2 outdoor pillow for under 30 dollars. Not too bad.

So how much did this whole project cost us? I would say with the screws and stain, under $25. Add on the pillows and cushion and we are talking about another $150. So for around $175 I have the best outdoor furniture!

Now keep in mind, my husband has access to free pallets. So if you don’t, it will be more, obviously. I would just check around, I get my chicken feed from a local store and there is about 50 stacked on the side of the building on any given day. Just make sure to ask. 😉

I also needed a coffee table, because I seriously love coffee… and where was I to put my beautiful flowers? And citronella candles? You get it.

So here you go, my awesome husband did it.

I would love to hear what you all think. Or if you have any questions, I would love to chat. OR even better, come and have a cup of coffee with me and we can sit on these beauties. 🙂

Until next time everyone. Love you all!

Another blogger?

So I am starting a blog. (insert eye roll here)  Well doesn’t everyone do this? I heard it’s the thing.  HAHA! So here goes nothing. My first blog post will be to tell you a little about me.

I am Jen Barncard, lover of Jesus, wife to John, mama to Jake 21, Josie 19, Jilian 15, and Juliet 10. I also take care of a man who will remain un-named who has Autism. He is part of our family and he is loved by all who are lucky enough to know him.

I love being a wife to my very best friend. He really makes me a better person and he is just fun to be with.  He is handsome and so smart but doesn’t think he is. Humble I guess. He is good at a lot of things and can build anything I ask. And I ask. 😉

One of the things that I am currently getting in to is being a virtual assistant. My awesome sister in law suggested that I get involved in this and I have learned so much! She has taught me a ton and I am now learning more on my own. What is a virtual assistant? Many people struggle with how to answer this question.

I also struggled for a time. The best way I have found in explaining this is to say that all those office tasks that need to be done can be done by computer…why pay a secretary or an assistant to be in an office when it can be done from their homes? This way, you don’t need to pay for office space, insurance, paid vacations, etc…

Have you ever been in need of something but don’t want to pay someone for 40 hours a week when you only need about 10 hours of work? This is the future and I am happy to be a part of it. If you ever want to talk…

I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I know, what does that even mean? It means that He made me and I appreciate it. He saved me from my huge list and wide variety of SIN. He is the perfect sacrifice and sacrifice He did. He died on the cross for my (and yours) sins. Past, present and future.

I am saved by His grace. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Zephaniah 3:17. The Lord your God is in your midst, a MIGHTY one who will save, He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with LOUD singing. What a beautiful word picture this makes. The God of the universe, the One who made everything, the mountains, the oceans, every living thing. The One who made you, He is exulting over you with loud singing. How can we wrap our brains around something so beautiful?

I really could go on and on. If you ever have questions about how much He loves you and wants to be in a relationship with you, it would be my honor and privilege. <3

Me and my cute little family moved out here from Minnesota in 2003. We live on 5.33 acres in a cute little town near Tacoma. We have 17 chickens and two dumb dogs. (jk) Okay, they are a little dumb but they let me know when people show up so I’ll let them stay. For now. 😉

I’m just going to be sharing my life with you. I’ll be talking about Jesus and things He is teaching me and showing me. I’ll be talking about my handsome husband. He’ll be helping me with a lot of our little projects. I for sure will be talking about my  DARLING kids and a little bit about our lives.

I will also be talking about my experiences in my VA journey. I will be posting articles and probably talking about new things that I have learned.

We like to build things, grow things, serve Jesus, serve people, feed people, and love each other. There will be posts about food, building furniture out of pallets, Jesus, gardening, parenting, VAing and lots of talks about how we get through this life in one piece. (or maybe 2)

So welcome to our life.  It’s so nice to meet you. I would love to hear from you. 🙂
